The First Lady of Uganda and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, has called on women in the Busoga sub-region to support the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and vote for President Museveni in the 2026 general elections.
In a message delivered on her behalf by former Vice President and Senior Presidential Adviser on Health, Dr. Specioza Wandira Kazibwe, Janet Museveni said the NRM government has implemented programmes and policies aimed at empowering women. She urged women to continue supporting the party, describing it as one that prioritises women’s development.
She made the call while meeting women who are members of an initiative led by former Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka in Luuka District.
Janet Museveni encouraged women to safeguard the future of their children by voting for President Museveni and the NRM party. She also urged women in Busoga to be role models in promoting economic transformation and good morals, cautioning them against engaging in divisive politics, handouts, and unproductive political practices.
Dr. Kazibwe further advised mothers to raise their children with strong moral values.
Janet Museveni commended Dorothy Kisaka for initiating the women’s programme, saying it has helped improve the economic well-being of women in the Busoga sub-region.
“Mothers should be at the forefront of nurturing and guiding the growth of their children,” Dr. Kazibwe told the gathering.
Addressing the meeting, Dorothy Kisaka said the initiative aims to build “model homes” in 11 districts of Busoga and Jinja City. She explained that the group is focusing on improving household health, hygiene and saving practices through 12 savings groups established in each village.
“We are operating across the districts of Busoga, including Jinja City. We have started 12 savings groups in each village,” Kisaka said.
Religious leaders, including Rev. Canon Moses Bikange and Rev. Cosam Tuliraba, urged the people of Busoga to work together, avoid conflict and refrain from actions that hinder development.
The event was attended by leaders from various districts in Busoga, who pledged their continued support for the NRM, citing achievements they said the party has delivered in the region.
